St. Mary Magdalen
The Berkeley CROP Hunger Walk, an annual event to raise money and awareness about hunger locally and internationally, will take place Sunday, April 29 beginning at 1 pm.
75% of the funds raised go to hunger needs around the world (through Church World Service) and 25% go to four Berkeley institutions—Berkeley Food Pantry, Dorothy Day House, YEAH, and Youth Spirit Art Works.
First Church has played a major role in this local event for several years. 30 to 40 walkers from our church participate. Last year, the Berkeley walk was in the top 50 of over 1000 walks and First Church's contributions of more than $8200 put the church in the top 100 teams in the nation.
This year, we plan to outraise that goal and register a record number of walkers on the Berkeley CROP website, besides making some noise in the neighborhood about those who are going hungry in the area and around the world.
You can easily register and donate online and share your website donation page with coworkers, relatives and friends near and far and also on Facebook. Over two-thirds of the contributions that come in are made online, so getting your name up will help us surpass last year's totals.
This year's march begins at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 2005 Berryman Street (at Henry). Registration is at 1 pm and the walk begins at 1:30 pm. The 3.1-mile walk travels down Shattuck through downtown Berkeley and returns on Oxford with shortcuts available. Ice cream treats follow the march.
