Saturday—Loper Chapel; Sunday—Sanctuary
First Church welcomes Rev. Alan Johnson as it's special guest preacher and leader on Saturday–Sunday, May 20-21 for the church's first Mental Health Weekend. He will preach on Sunday, followed by a Learning Hour discussion and also meet with all interested congregation members on Saturday morning.
Rev. Johnson is an ordained clergy in the UCC and is a graduate of Yale University Divinity School. He served congregations in Connecticut and New York, was on the national staff of the UCC from 1979-1995 and retired as chaplain at the Children’s Hospital, Denver. He is co-founder of the Interfaith Network on Mental Illness and presently is chair of the Board of Directors of the UCC Mental Health Network.
Please join us on Saturday, May 20 from 10–11:30 am in Loper Chapel to meet Rev. Johnson. We will have time to share what it means to open the conversation about mental health in our church community, learn what the UCC is doing at the national level and exchange ideas of what we can do as we move forward around this important topic.
Rev. Johnson will be our guest preacher on Sunday, May 21. His sermon title will be “Don’t Shrink Back.” He will then lead us in a sermon talk-back time in the Learning Hour after worship.
