Author and Spirit Rock meditation teacher Phillip Moffitt will speak about his new book Awakening through the Nine Bodies on Thursday, November 2, 2107 at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary at First Church Berkeley.
At the peak of his career, former CEO and Editor-in-chief of Esquire magazine, Phillip Moffitt traded in his worldly aspirations to explore the inner life. He has been teaching meditation for over 25 years and has been a guiding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center since 2010. Phillip is the author of Emotional Chaos to Clarity and Dancing with Life.
Phillip has been studying with Sri Swami Balyogi Premvarni, a yogi in the ancient Himalayan forest tradition, since 1999. Balyogi teaches about the Nine Bodies; a system of wisdom about the wholeness of a human being—mind, consciousness, body, spirit, and more. This system is based in ancient yoga traditions combined with Balyogi's own understandings. From these understandings, Balyogi created a number of beautiful and mysterious illustrations that depict various states of human consciousness.
After many years of practicing these teachings, Phillip developed specific meditations based on Balyogi’s illustrations. The meditations guide practitioners to a direct experience of each of the Nine Bodies. In his new book, Awakening through the Nine Bodies, Phillip pairs the illustrations with meditation instructions and insights about each one. The book serves as a gateway for a deep exploration of the nature of mind.
Copies of his book will be available that evening. Admission will be $10 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Doors will open at 7 pm and the event will start at 7:30 pm.
