On Saturday, September 8, 2018, a march called Rise for Climate, Jobs & Justice will be held in San Francisco beginning at Embarcadero Plaza at 10 am. The march to promote a New Energy and Economic Future will be one of thousands taking place across the country that day. It is sponsored by the People’s Climate Movement and many partner organizations including the United Church of Christ Council for Climate Justice. An interfaith worship service will be held at 9 am before the march begins.
The march in San Francisco will be one of the major events that day as a lead up to the Global Climate Action Summit, also in San Fransisco the following week. The Summit will bring together leaders and organizations that are moving forward on climate action even as the current national administration back-tracks.
We'll meet in front of the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero at 10 am and join other UCC churches in an interfaith contingent. Look for Phil Porter (510-338-8905). Rachel Bauman (831-566-0353) will meet anyone who wants to go to SF by BART at the Ashby Station at 9:10 am.
The Choral Majority will be singing at this march. They will join a choral “flash mob” at 10:45 am, and lead a Curbside Climate Chorus from 11 am–12 pm about halfway up the march (exact location TBD). To prepare, there will be a song session on Wedneday, August 29, 6:30–8 pm in the Pillar Room.
