Dr. Riess Potterveld will present the second of a two-part series on Theodicy—“Why does an all-powerful and all-good God permit evil in the world?” on Sunday, October 8. This Learning Hour presentation organized by the Ministry of Adult Education will take place in Loper Chapel at 11:45 am.
Taken from the Greek, “theodicy” literally means “justifying God,” a task that has entranced and befuddled theologians and the laity for centuries.
Dr. Potterveld, is the president of the Graduate School of Theology and former president of the Pacific School of Religion and Lancaster Theological Seminary. Also a First Church member, Riess received his undergraduate degree from Yale and his doctorate from the Claremont Graduate University.
