Three different performances in three different languages!
Join the First Church Festival Orchestra for a special presentation of Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" on Saturday, March 17, conducted by First Church Music Director Derek Tam.
In this “symphonic fairy tale for children,” a narrator tells a children's story while the orchestra illustrates it. The unique voices of different instruments represent the characters in the story, including a duck, a bird, a cat and of course Peter and a wolf.
This is Prokofiev's most frequently performed work, and one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire.
In this special event, part of the First Church Resonance performance series, the piece will be performed three times, each time with the narrator speaking a different language:
10:30 am English Rachel Bauman, Minister of Community Life, First Church Berkeley
11:30 am Chinese Monica Xu, former reporter, World Journal
12:30 pm Spanish Marci Valdivieso, singer and activist
In addition an instrument “petting zoo” will provide children an “up-close” look at the different musical instruments.
All tickets are $15 for this performance, available at Brown Paper Tickets.

Music has always been an important part of the life of First Church. It touches the soul and gives sound and voice to ineffable mystery. We sing together and share our musical gifts. We also delight in the special talents of artists from within our community and beyond.
