First Church Berkeley is participating in an on-going food drive to support the work of the Berkeley Food Pantry which provides food on an emergency basis to more than 2000 residents of Berkeley and Albany each month, members of our community who find it necessary to stand in line for free food. Even though a "head of household" works full time, a family may be "in poverty" if it has inadequate resources to cover basic expenses of food, housing, clothing, transportation.
The First Church community is invited to join the effort to provide food for those in need. Each time you do your regular grocery shopping, put an item or two in your cart and bring them to church on any Sunday. Boxes and bags will be on hand every Sunday morning in both services to receive your offerings.
Peanut butter and breakfast cereal are high on the list of needed items, but the Pantry also welcomes a variety of canned foods (tuna/meat/poultry, vegetables, fruit, etc.) and packaged items (rice, beans, pasta, healthy snacks). Please avoid glass food containers and "outdated" items.
Financial contributions are also welcome. Go to berkeleyfoodpantry.org to make a donation online.
