Our preacher and Learning Hour leader for Sun., May 12 will be Rev. Dr. Phiwa Langeni! A fellow core writer for the UCC StillSpeaking Devotionals & originally from South Africa, Phiwa (they, them) is passionate about helping people understand that “different” doesn’t have to mean dangerous. They invite us into the liminal space between what has been and what is yet to be, supporting those at the center towards curiosity rather than fear. The founder and director of the Salus Center, Lansing, MI’s only LGBTQ Resource and Community Center, Rev. Langeni also serves as the Ambassador for Innovation and Engagement for the United Church of Christ (UCC).
Rev. Langeni will be preaching on “Turning Tables.” They write “Jesus evicting moneychangers from the temple was a radical maneuver back then. It’s relevant for us today as we explore key features of God’s table.” Rev. Langeni will also lead a Learning Hour afterward on the topic of “The Church as it Was…Is…Could Be.” Phiwa’s description: The Church of tomorrow will be Bold, Relevant, Accessible, Innovative, and Diverse. During the Learning Hour, we’ll go through a rapid journey of the Church as it was, is, and could be to help us uncover how God is calling for us to embody the BRAID Church as it’s unfolding!
