First Church will celebrate the season of Advent in 2016 with the theme “Making Peace with the Body” beginning on Sunday, November 27 and continuing through Christmas Eve.
With its carnal, deeply embodied theologies and joys, as we await the Word Made Flesh, Advent gives us a singular opportunity to grieve, wonder about and give thanks for bodies.
This Advent, our new worship series, Making Peace With the Body, will let us reflect on what our bodies have done for us (or failed to do), how God is present with us in our embodiedness and how? our bodies are in fact tools that allow the Prince of Peace to literally make peace with our bodies.
We’ll also invite a new series of testimonies from folks in the pews on the same theme!
In this post-fire time we will continue to worship at Congregation Beth El (1307 Oxford Street, Berkeley) with one service each Sunday at 10 am.
On Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24), we hold three services—an Intergenerational Service at 4 pm, Christmas Eve in the Cloister at 6 pm and a Candlelight Service at 10 pm.
