30 members and friends of First Church Berkeley joined with the committed staff of the Oakland organization Urban Releaf to plant trees in North Oakland as the first major event of the UCC?s ?Mission 4/1 Earth? denomination-wide campaign. The event was truly intergenerational, with tree planters from the very young to the very wise.
The site, the Oakland Dialysis Center at the corner of Claremont and Clifton in North Oakland, and the immediate surroundings, are being beautified, in part with help from the neighbors. The Urban Releaf team provided all the materials needed, excellent guidance on how to ensure successful plantings and muscle power when needed.
