Christmas Bags & Secret Santas: Sharing with Our Unhoused Neighbors

Wed, Dec 6, 2017

First Church folk have two opportunities to contribute to our unhoused neighbors this season.

Christmas Bags

For the second year, the church will be passing out Christmas gift bags to the unhoused following our Christmas Eve in the Cloister service at 6 pm on December 24 to express our care and empathy.

Secret Santas

Also, First Church is partnering with the Berkeley Men’s Shelter to provide Secret Santa packages of hats, socks, toothbrushes, razors and toothpaste. Sign up to provide items after worship on Sunday, December 10. Contact Carolyn Cox or Rowan Peterson for more info.

Needed items:

•    Warm, small items: mylar blankets, socks, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves
•    Individually wrapped snacks: granola bars, peanut butter crackers, single-packaged trail mix, Vienna sausage in pop-top can, foil tuna packs, jerky, bottled water
•    Grooming and hygiene products: lip balm, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, band aids, nail clippers, hand wipes, tissue packs, tooth paste
•    Useful items: plastic utensils, gallon ziplock bags, duct tape, small liquid soap
•    Gift cards: from local drug, grocery and dollar stores, coffee shops.
•    We can also use your cash or checks to buy needed items. (Make out the check to FCCB and put “Christmas Eve gift bags” in the memo line.)

Donations will be collected before and after worship on Sundays, December 10, 17 & 24.
