100 members of the First Church community joined the in Oakland Women's March (and marches in other locations) on Saturday, January 21 the day after the Presidential election. It was one of hundreds of marches that took place across the country and around the world.
Senior Minister Molly Baskette writes on Facebook, “We treated each other and the spaces we were in with dignity and respect. We were smashed into subway cars and stood waiting in sun and rain for hours, growing weary and hungry. We took care of children and elders and accompanied disabled folks for many hours, and we did not get snippy.
We loved. We danced. We high fived strangers and made new friends. No one got arrested or pepper sprayed or nothin. 3 MILLION people yo, and we did it peacefully.
What will we do next, so effectively?”
