The Mental Health Ministry Team continues this fall with activities to support its goals of seeking to include all members and friends in the life of the church, to provide opportunities to reduce stigma for those with mental health challenges, to share stories, to educate ourselves around these issues and to remind ourselves that we are loved as children of God, just as we are. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Mental Health Ministry Team meetings are held monthly on second Sundays, with a variety of presentations, discussions and educational videos. Our first meeting will be on September 10, 11:30 am–1 pm in Durant House. We will hear from church member Kerrie Hein. She will talk about a six-series presentation called Mental Health Promotion Seminars to be offered through Adult Education starting in January 2018.
In response to a number of requests, a Mental Health Spiritual Support Group is forming which will meet monthly on third Sundays. This group will be led on a rotating basis by Ministers in Covenant, who are ordained church members and have volunteered to facilitate the group. The first meeting will be September 17, 11:30 am–12:30 pm in Room #6 in the East Bay School for Boys (see map), which is on the second floor; access is by elevator or stairs. This group is open to everyone, as are all our activities.
Another new team is forming: the Mental Health Hospitality Team. This team will address the needs of both members and visitors who come to church and present “in-the-moment” concerns of a mental health nature. We are looking for interested people to attend a planning meeting on Sunday, September 24, 11:30 am–12:30 pm in Durant House. All are welcome; no commitment expected if you attend.
