When asked how we treat a beloved friend who’s having a hard time, most people say they listen, offer kind support and encouragement, and maybe give a hug.
But, when we ourselves are having a hard time — experiencing loss, or failure — we often “talk to ourselves” with harsh self-criticism. Research shows that 78% of those asked, say they treat themselves worse than they treat a beloved friend.
Training in Mindful Self Compassion encourages our natural self-kindness and compassion. Rev. Nancy DeNero will co-lead the nine-week training in Mindful Self-Compassion, on Sat. mornings, from Sept. 21 to Nov. 16. Mark your calendar.
Nancy’s co-leader will be Cheryl Pierson, an MSC teacher-in-training and active member of Danville Congregational Church.
Funds raised through MSC tuition and donations will go to First Church Berkeley to support the church’s recovery post-fire.
Fee is $225 for series, or $45 deposit plus $20 per week. Additional donations are deeply appreciated. Scholarships are available. MSC flyer is on the First Church website: firstchurchberkeley.org/mindful
Early registration is encouraged. Space is limited to 20.
Begin by emailing Nancy DeNero (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your name, phone number and best time to reach you.
Not yet sure if this is for you? An experiential introduction to MSC is happening during the Learning Hour on Sun., Sept. 8 in Loper Chapel. There will be plenty of time for questions. Bring a friend!
