Transgender Day of Remembrance

For the first time, First Church observed Transgender Day of Remembrance during the 11 am service on Sunday, November 15, 2015 as a memorial to trans people who have been murdered in the last year.

Emerging Leader Sonny Graves preached a powerful sermon in which he read a letter to a young trans person in the future sharing the very real challenges of the day as well as hope for the future. He and Rachel Bauman then read the names of over 70 murdered trans people, many women and many people of color.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is marked by events around the world each year on November 20. Local events this Friday include gatherings at Oakland City Hall, 7?9 pm and at SF LGBT Community Center, 1800 Market Street, San Francisco at 6 pm.
