First Church will worship again at First Presbyterian Church at 2 pm on Sunday, October 16. It is the hope of staff to finalize arrangements with a faith community in Berkeley where we will worship on Sunday mornings beginning on Sunday, October 23.
Children will begin in the worship service with their families and then go to their Sunday School classes after the children?s sermon. They will be meeting in the classrooms of the Presbyterian church. Signs and teachers will lead the children to the proper locations.
Afterwards children ages 4?11 can join the first of a four-week singing module from 3:15 to 3:45 pm organized by Music Director Derek Tam and led by First Church singers Alan Miller, Lisa Jeffcoat and Kathy Helliesen. Sunday School teachers can take the children to the First Pres classroom where this will take place. After singing, the children will be brought down to the fellowship time in the courtyard to reunite with their families. Parents of children who choose not to sing can be picked up in their classrooms after the service.
As was the case last Sunday, a nursery will also be available from 1:45 to 3:15 pm.
Both Winthrop and YES youth groups will be going to a San Jose Earthquakes soccer game this Sunday. Meet in the First Church parking lot at noon to carpool. Tickets are still available (and scholarships to pay for them) for any youth who would like to go. Contact Lauren Jewett (firstname.lastname@example.org) to sign up or for more information.
An official congregational meeting will be held in the First Pres Sanctuary following the service to consider whether the congregation will endorse Measure A1, the Affordable Housing Bond, which is on the Alameda County ballot this November. Moderator Amy Hiestand will convene the meeting.
The community will gather for food and conversation afterwards in the First Pres courtyard. Bring soup, salad, fruit or bread to add to the feast.
