The congregation voted to be “Open & Affirming” in 1994 and LGBT folk are fully a part of our community and leadership. Our denomination has taken prophetic stands over many years in support of LGBT inclusion.

On Sunday, April 19, In an official congregational meeting, First Congregational Church of Berkeley voted to amend its Open and Affirming Statement to include the phrases "gender identity" and "gender expression" to be more welcoming to the transgender community. Read more...
The Open and Affirming Coalition of the United Church of Christ
The Open and Affirming Coalition of the United Church of Christ (formerly known as the UCC Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns) is a national organization working toward the full inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender expressions in church and society. It created the Open and Affirming Program to encourage congregations and other settings of the church to directly welcome LGBT people.
