Marvin K. White

Public Theologian in Residence

Marvin K. White is serving as First Church’s Public Theologian in Residence for 2017-2018. In that role, he will preach four times during the year and lead four “workshops” the week before he preaches during the Learning Hour. He will also collaborate with the Worship Planning Team.

Marvin earned a Masters of Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion Berkeley in 2016. While in school he was also a pastoral intern and Pastor Associate at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. He has over 25 years of experience as a published poet and is the author of four collections of poetry. He is currently a YBCA (Yerba Buena Center for the Arts) Fellow and continues to be a performer, playwright, visual artist, community arts organizer, preacher, and speaker. He is articulating a vision of social and creative justice through being a writer, artist, activist, community organizer, public theologian, preacher, homemaker, cake baker, caregiver and Facebook statistician.
