Isaiah 58:10-12

These words come at the end of this passage from Isaiah 58:10-12—“You will rebuild ancient ruins, and build upon age-old foundations. You will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, and Restorer of Ruined Neighborhoods.” The prophet was calling the people of Israel to respond to the hungry and oppressed, even as they may have been experiencing their own challenges. In the wake of the September 2016 church fire that “brought the walls down,” Senior Minister Molly Baskette challenges the congregation to consider how a rebuilt Pilgrim Hall could serve the needs of the community by including two to three stories of affordable housing units. What would that mean for the community at large and First Church’s role as “Repairer of Broken Walls?”
