Sermon

Thomas, the twin, missed out when Jesus appeared to the disciples in the upper room. Young Adult Minister Kit Novotny notes that we don’t know exactly why he wasn’t there—was he depressed and holed up at home, out roaming the streets looking for Jesus, or did he get locked out? So he had his own FOMO moment—“fear of missing out.” And yet, his desire for a direct full-bodied experience of Jesus’ resurrection—his combination of faith and doubt—rings true today. And when we share our own vulnerability—our own scars—and experience the scars of others, we are opening ourselves to God’s Easter promise, as real now as it was then for Thomas.
