Sermon

Dr. Boyung Lee takes on a disturbing parable that Jesus tells about a king who throws a wedding party but seems to have trouble with his guest list and his guests no matter what he does (Matthew 22:1-14). The king?s behavior in response is hardly exemplary. Dr. Lee turns the tables on the story, suggesting that we see the story as contrast, not as allegory?that we hear the story with our sarcastic mind. She suggests that the story is a powerful statement about imperial power and violence, a comment on the politics of the Roman Empire at that time and our own world order today.
