Sermon

The state of the world can seem perilous. Political life in the United States seems chaotic. Minister of Art & Communication Phil Porter describes his attempts to share his experience of life with our current president to his InterPlay friends in Australia in performance in January. In one story, he found himself weaving together threads of eschatology (the study of the “end times”) with the simple magic of his partner Chihn’s breakfast cooking and his superpower to turn any day into “waffle day.” Jesus spoke of the coming of God’s realm, sometimes in apocalyptic terms and sometimes in the simple language of love and birth (Matthew 24:3-8, 10-13). Could the times we are experiencing be just a prelude to the breaking forth of God’s realm “on earth as is it in heaven?”
