Sermon

Young Adult Minister Kit Novotny shares stories of doing theater and improv from the time she was in high school and the sense of freedom and excitement that it gave her. She invites us into the same sense of vulnerability and trust as “fools for Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:18-21; 25) in the tradition of iconic saints and prophets who sometimes demonstrated their humility in public and theatrical acts. She also explores the role of the fool as portrayed in the Proverbs, often in much starker and even scatalogical language. She uses the verse As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly. to excoriate the inability of the United States to deal with gun violence even after repeated mass shootings.
