Sermon

On this Sunday when the church was celebrating Pentecost as well as the confirmation of eight of the church’s youth into full membership in the church, Senior Minister Molly Baskette reflects on how we are hearing each other and the Spirit. She begins with the controversy that has spread across social media about a small bit of audio that some people hear as “laurel” and some as “yanni.” A major element in the Pentecost story was that when the disciples were filled with the Spirit, they spoke in ways that many people could understand and that the young ones would see visions and the elders dream dreams. She imagines what claiming one’s faith as a young person in the UCC in this day and age might mean.
