Sermon

On Transgender Day of Remembrance & Visibility, First Church mourns the lives of transgender people who have been murdered over the last year. Member and former Emerging Leader Sonny Graves draws on both the pain and the promise of the story of the crucifixion of Jesus. We mourn and lament and are held in our tenderness by God. We celebrate that all bodies are sacred, none more than others. In this time, we celebrate progress toward the inclusion of trans people and also acknowledge that violence and hatred still exist. Too many lives are being lost. Trans women of color are particularly vulnerable. The church can be Christ’s body in the world, birthing something new as we risk love together.
