Molly Baskette
Sunday Oct 23, 2016 10:00am
Sermon

First Church Berkeley worships for the first time at Congregation Beth El, where worship will take place on Sunday mornings at 10 am while the First Church Sanctuary is being restored. On the first Sunday of the 2017 Pledge Campaign Senior Minister Molly Baskette preaches on the story of the Pharisee who stands in the middle of the temple and prays loudly about his virtue and the tax collector who prays humbly in a corner (Luke 18:9-14). The Pharisee brags about tithing. This story has been used an excuse for not talking in public about how much we give to our church. Molly suggests that both humility and transparency can be powerful in the process of giving. She shares her own experience with giving and talks about her own pledge to the church. In this pledge season all four of the ministers will be sharing that information.
